Why you should consider Air Source Heating

How air source heating works
Air source heating uses refrigeration technology – in reverse. Instead of taking heat from the air inside a container (a fridge) to keep it cool, heat is extracted from the outside air and transferred into a home to keep it warm.
In a domestic air source heating system an air to air heat pump is fitted to an outside wall. It will work on any wall where the air is circulating freely, but for maximum efficiency a south-facing wall that catches the sun is preferable to one in permanent shade. The heat extracted from the air by the pump can either be used to heat water in underfloor heating or radiators, or it can be used to warm air that is then moved around the home by fans.
The benefits of air source heating
Air source heating has several advantages over other types of heating:
- Reduced carbon emissions from your home as no fuel is burnt to produce heat.
- Lower energy bills. Air is a free and renewable resource, and although electricity is used to power the air to air heat pump, in most homes this will be far less than the amount needed for conventional electric heating. The running costs of air source heating can also be more economical compared with other fuels.
- Always available. Unlike solar or wind powered systems, air source heating works 24 hours, every day of the year, even if the outside temperature falls to minus 15°C.
- Once installed, air source heating will run trouble-free for years with very little maintenance needed.
