Physics Of Wakeboarding

Why does a 3 stage rocker provide more pop than a continuous rocker?

I’m doing a 4,000 word essay and experiment on the physics of wakeboarding for school. I receive consensus that a three stage rocker provides more “pop” or lift than a continuous rocker, but I don’t know why. Could anyone help me out?

If we’re talking about rockets and not rockers, then it’s all about mass.

It takes a lot of energy to lift a heavy rocket into orbit.
So it takes a lot of fuel.
So it takes a very large fuel tank.
The fuel tank itself is heavy. Once it’s empty, why bother carrying it along any more?

Using stages lets you get rid of the mass of the empty stages, so the remaining mass of the rocket is less, making it easier to lift.
