What to look for when buying a use jet ski?

Im looking in to buying a a used Personal Watercraft and need to know what to look for. Im a auto mechanic so i do know my way around machines but not PWC. Please give me a DETAIL list of things to watch for such as how many hrs are aceptable. PS is a 02 seadoo RX with 132 hrs for $3500 with trailer a good deal?

Personal watercraft are NOT boats.

They go through much more rugged conditions that make them wear faster then most boats.

The number of hours differs to each jet ski. Look for signs of damage on the hull – loose engine and jet drive parts before taking it out for a spin. it should be fine if it has been used in freshwater, because it is not corrosive. If it has been used in saltwater many times, and has not been “flushed” each time – do not buy it because the engine will have had damage to it.

I recommend going to the seller and taking it out for a test drive. This will give you a feel for the ski, and will let you know if it the right one for you.
