Is the brand of thermal paste really that important or rather the cooler?

So my computer should arrive today, and i have the joy of building it. The cooler (V8 coolmaster) comes with thermal paste. I want to know what difference the actuall brand of thermal paste makes. I have a feeling its a myth or that you see very little difference and the actual decrease in temperature is very nominal. What are your thoughts?

Any company that’s trying to sell you something will lead you to believing that the only way to prevent catastrophic damage to your hardware components is through buying their product. It’s an “appeal to fear”.

That said, you should be wary of how you apply the paste, and use a brand that’s “decent”. Don’t bother with the expensive stuff that others swear by; it’s just computer voodoo. “Computoo” is the term, I think.
